This butterscotch Bakelite bangle bracelet has a funky Primitivist flavor. The chunky bangle has cool, asymmetric lines and unexpected curves. The Bakelite is glossy and opaque, with mottled caramel and butterscotch colors. Very Mid-Century, the piece feels both primal and sophisticated Circa 1950.
Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.
Details: The bangle\'s exterior measures from .50\" to .88\" wide and 3.4\" in diameter. It has an 8\" inner circumference. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
