About every two years, the plant renews its leaves and sheds the old ones, which are then collected by humans, dried in the sun for a few days to weeks and processed into wickerwork, depending on the desired degree of browning. The relative rarity and the higher processing effort make this material somewhat more expensive compared to other plant fibers.
