HOT ! Ray Carbon Fiber Chaise by Mast Elements

Inspired by the fish of the same name, this monocoque chaise longue seems to float above the seafloor only touching the ground with two wings to support it.  Made completely of carbon fiber, it is a stunning piece that works indoors or outdoors.

Carbon fiber is a thread-like structure, a very thin one, used to make many advanced materials.  Fibers are bonded together with a resin so strong fibers are in the correct orientation to absorb strains while keeping the shape of the composed piece.  To make structures with composite materials, carbon fibers are first twisted together, woven into a fabric, and then, once laid in a mold, put in the matrix.
