This handcrafted brass cross is inspired by 10th–14th century Kyivan Rus body crosses, reflecting the Christian artistic traditions shared across the Byzantine and Slavic world. The piece is cast in brass reclaimed from melted battlefield cartridges, a contemporary material choice that adds modern context to this historical design.
Each cross is created using the lost-wax casting method, the same process used by medieval artisans. After casting, both sides are coated with real green enamel, producing a finish consistent with enamelled devotional objects found in archaeological sites from the Middle Ages.
Made by artisans from the Sumy region of Ukraine, the pendant has a modest, historically faithful form with hand-finished details. Slight variations are natural and contribute to the individuality of each piece.
Collectors of Kyivan Rus and Byzantine artifacts, medieval reenactors, those interested in Eastern Christian heritage, and anyone who appreciates small-scale historical metalwork recreated with traditional methods.
