HOT ! Rare Antique Traditional Folk Costume Purse or Bag: C1889 Sweden

Item Details.Woman\'s folk bag part of the traditional costume from the region of Rättvik Sweden Sweden. The peasant tradition of Europe associates red particularly with young women and with marriage. It is the dominant colour in all costume.

A rare folk art bag handmade in a traditional manner using reindeer hide and fine wooden broad cloth which has been cut into initials SKU and the date 1889.

The bag has appliquéd decorative elements and is finished with handmade pom-poms echoing the colours used in the bag. It is finished with a hand woven strap which allowed the bag to be worn accross the body.

Condition: Excellent The bag has an overall patina of age, losses to edging and appliqués and small holes. But it is all original and complete and a wonderful thing which I have only ever seen one other example of in a book.
