Name: Aged Persian Hamadan with Deep Navy Field & Bold Tribal Medallions
Size: 2.7 x 4.6
Age: Vintage / Early-20th Century
Pile: Low to medium pile with honest age and character
This Aged Persian Hamadan is all about strong geometry and classic tribal presence.
The field is a rich deep navy blue, the perfect backdrop for the bold stacked medallions that anchor the design. These angular forms run down the center of the rug, creating that confident rhythm you see in so many village weavings from the Hamadan region. The medallions are surrounded by sharp geometric motifs and tribal detailing, giving the rug that unmistakable graphic energy collectors appreciate.
Hamadan rugs are known for exactly this kind of design — structured, slightly rugged, and full of personality. The crisp shapes and repeating elements feel almost architectural, and the contrast against the dark field makes every motif stand out beautifully.
The 2.7 x 4.6 format is another sweet spot. It works perfectly in an entryway, beside a bed, in a small sitting area, or layered over a larger rug to add texture and vintage character.
Bottom line: classic village weaving with bold mid-century tribal style.
This rug comes from the Hamadan weaving region in western Iran, one of the largest and most prolific rug-producing areas in Persia. Hundreds of villages throughout the province — including places like Malayer, Nahavand, and Borujerd — produced rugs with exactly this kind of strong geometric medallion layout and tribal design language.
Hamadan rugs are typically woven with a durable cotton foundation and wool pile, giving them both structure and longevity.
Like all the rugs we carry, this piece is authentic, handmade, and completely one-of-a-kind. It has been professionally cleaned and is ready for its next chapter.
Once it sells, that\'s it. There will never be another one exactly like it.
This is a genuine vintage handmade textile. Minor irregularities, variation in color, and signs of age are completely normal and part of what give these rugs their charm and authenticity.
Translation: that’s character, not damage.
We always recommend using a high-quality custom-cut rug pad designed specifically for hand-knotted rugs. A proper pad protects the foundation of the rug, adds body underfoot, and keeps everything from slipping or sliding.
Rugs like this weren’t made in factories. They were woven knot by knot on village looms, often by artisans working from memory and generations of tradition.
Who first owned it? Where did it live? How many homes has it seen over the decades?
We may never know the full story — and honestly, that mystery is part of the beauty.
At Rugsnob, we hunt down the good ones — the rugs with real soul, real craftsmanship, and real presence — and pass them along to people who know the difference.
Because once you’ve lived with a rug like this, the mass-produced stuff just doesn’t hit the same.
