Story Behind the Art: The term Bokhara is commonly used to describe rugs inspired by Tekke tribal designs originating in Central Asia. Traditionally associated with the Tekke people near the historic city of Bokhara, these rugs are defined by repeating geometric patterns, including octagonal guls and the well-known elephant-foot motif. Today, Bokhara-style rugs are produced across the rug-weaving world, including Pakistan, Iran, India, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. While construction techniques vary—ranging in pile height, knot type, and foundation materials—the unifying factor remains the disciplined geometric design language that defines Bokhara rugs.
