This is a pair of Thonet No. 9 Bentwood Caned Armchairs, initially designed by Michael Thonet in 1870. This pair dates to the 1960s and was produced under license by Stendig in Czechoslovakia. The bentwood frames are made from beech, and the seats are hand caned. It is said that this was Le Corbusier’s favorite chair design.
Each chair measures 21.66 inches deep, 21.66 inches wide, and 31.11 inches high. The cane seats are intact with no rips or issues, and the bent beech has achieved a nice patina. There are several scuffs on the frames, and we can have the frames refinished upon request. Overall, these chairs are in very good condition. Please see photos.
