The Okapi, (Okapia johnstoni), often referred to as the \"forest giraffe,\" is a unique and elusive mammal native to the dense rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Central Africa. With its striking appearance—long neck and legs like a giraffe, but a body and face similar to a zebra—its survival is threatened due to habitat loss, poaching, and political instability in the region. As of the latest estimates, there are fewer than 10,000 okapis remaining in the wild, and the species is classified as endangered.
Habitat destruction, primarily due to deforestation from logging and agriculture, is a major concern for the okapi, as it relies on the dense, undisturbed forests for food and shelter. Poaching for their meat and hides also poses a significant threat. Additionally, the ongoing conflict and instability in the DRC make conservation efforts more challenging, as protecting the okapi\'s habitat and enforcing anti-poaching laws is difficult in these regions.
In support, 20% of all profits will be donated to the Okapi Conservation Project!
