A revival of a vanished masterpiece—weighty, radiant, and quietly luxurious.
Born in the late Edo period as a Satsuma domain initiative, Satsuma Kiriko flourished briefly before fading from history after only a few decades. Today’s glass is a faithful revival of that “phantom” craft—reborn through exacting technique and patient handwork.
Double-layered glass (kise): A coloured layer is mouth-blown, then fused seamlessly with clear glass from within to form two layers. The surface is then hand-cut with intricate patterns.
Signature gradient: Because the coloured layer is thick, every cut reveals a soft gradation from deep tone to clear crystal—Satsuma Kiriko’s unmistakable beauty.
Heirloom weight & warmth: Substantial in the hand with a gentle, almost warm tactility.
Hand-engraved base: Each glass bears a finely carved “satsuma” mark on the underside—done one by one.
Among the revived colours, Ruri stands out: a vivid, night-sky blue with luminous depth. As each glass is handmade, shades and gradation vary subtly, making yours genuinely one of a kind.
Perfect for whisky, umeshu, cocktails, or sparkling water—an elegant way to savour a quiet moment. Share the pleasure of using a glass that exists only once in the world.
