Pounamu Hei Matau | Kawakawa Stone
Based in their Whanganui workshop, Madelyne Gourdin and Nick Spicer Balme of Kawakawa Stone combine international technical mastery with a profound respect for the heritage of Aotearoa.
The flowing lines of the Hei Matau hook represent the connection between the wearer and the ocean, offering a sense of guidance and luck.
Because the form is so tactile and sculpted, it highlights the vibrant moss-green tones and natural milky inclusions within the stone, carved from rare Whakatū pounamu from Nelson.
Choosing a piece like this is a lovely way to honour the spiritual heritage of Aotearoa in a subtle, everyday way.
A wonderful choice if you are looking for a special taonga to wear every single day.
