Woven in the region of Caucasus, this 19th Century vegetable dyed wool Kazak embodies the geometric and bold design and color that are traditional features of these rugs. Perhaps that is why they are some of the most widely collected and prized of the Caucasian rugs. Some of the earliest Kazaks woven date back as far as 1700 BC.
Rugs that were woven in this region had enormous meaning and significance to the tribal folks. These pieces were usually woven in small sizes and are great scatter rugs that have wonderful history, soul and power in their tribal elements and symbolism. This Kazak is love worn, woven on a wool foundation and with all natural dyes that have aged well. Please see pics for full character and condition. Woven circa 1880.
